Clubhouse Dos and Don’ts
Have you had an elusive invite to Clubhouse yet? The latest social media networking, audio only app which is invite only at the mo further increasing the hype, is much talked about…but for me the jury is still out.
Find the right room.
Its value lies in finding the ‘room’ which suits your goals and interests. A cross between podcasts and panel discussions, you will walk away from the right room having learnt something and some new contacts. The wrong room, leaving you with a sense of frustration at time wasted.
Finding the right room is a bit of trial and error. Search based on your interests and/or the sector in which you work. Follow people you know or admire to see which rooms they join. Completing your bio and setting up interests will also lead to your being prompted about ‘rooms’ that might be of interest.
Walk right in
Then it’s a case of joining as many rooms as you like and seeing what you think. It’s the only way to see if Clubhouse will work for you. If it’s interesting, stay and listen, or you can raise a question or make a contribution by simply raising your hand. If not, you can quietly leave and get on with your day (which is a godsend when you think of all those events you’ve gone to in person and then wanted to slip out of the door unnoticed!).
Don’t hog the room
A word of warning if you raise your hand. Observe the room before you speak to get a sense of the mood of the room first. And when you speak, be clear, concise, and to the point. Nail your intro and then say your piece. Don’t hog the stage with waffle - ensure your contributions bring value to the conversation taking place. If the room moderator is any good they should prevent this from happening, But don’t be the one who has to be reminded of the rules!
I’m not giving up on the party just yet so maybe I’ll see you there soon…if you have an invite that is!
